    MIAMI – The Eleventh Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission has been asked to provide Governor Rick Scott with nominees for the vacancy in the Miami-Dade Circuit Court created by the resignation of Circuit Court Judge Antonio Marin.

    The Commission requests that interested candidates submit an application for consideration. Applicants must meet the qualifications for circuit court judges described in Article V, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution. 

    Applicants must deliver a complete original application by March 30, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. No copies shall be required. Any application delivered after the deadline will not be considered. The original application should be delivered to:

    Role of Chief Diversity Officer and Senior


    Advisor to the President 


    The University of Florida is currently recruiting for an accomplished visionary to lead the university’s diversity efforts and establish a new standard for inclusive excellence. As a member of the president’s cabinet, the chief diversity officer and senior advisor to the president will have a strategic position responsible for promoting and enabling an exceptional environment for faculty, students, and staff. The position reports directly to the president, with close working relationships with the provost as well as the chief operating officer. The position serves as an advisor to the president and the president’s cabinet.

    The chief diversity officer provides leadership, expertise, and vision for the university’s new coordinated model for diversity and inclusion. The position serves in a collaborative and coordinating role with college and work-unit employees who are responsible for diversity and inclusion. The chief diversity officer facilitates sharing of best practices and identifies opportunities for greater alignment and more unified efforts across campus. The position will chair a senior advisory group of UF scholars and professionals providing expertise and support for initiatives.

    Priorities for this role are strategy and engagement; coordination and alignment; communications and issues management; and success metrics.     Leadership

    Strategy and engagement: Serves as the university’s executive-level strategist responsible for guiding practices and creating opportunities to define, assess, and promote inclusive excellence, access, and cultural proficiency. Collaborates with deans, campus leaders, students, and other key stakeholders to identify institutional priorities and short-term objectives that align with the university’s strategic goals as articulated in The Decade Ahead and enhance UF’s national reputation. Develops a cohesive narrative of what inclusive excellence and diversity mean at UF and works with other leaders to communicate this vision consistently within the UF community and externally.

    Success metrics: Establishes and leverages key metrics to demonstrate both quantitative and qualitative progress toward a climate of inclusion.

    Expertise, consultation, and compliance: Provides evidence-based insight to support diversity and inclusion. Engages and consults with the Office of the Provost, Student Affairs, Human Resources, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, and other expert stakeholders to help support related efforts, including compliance, throughout campus.

    SENIOR ATTORNEY POSITION-DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

    Assistant Regional Legal Counsel:  The Department of Children and Families for the Southern Region is seeking an Assistant Regional Legal Counsel to fill a senior attorney position.  Under the direction of the Regional Legal Counsel, the Assistant Regional Legal Counsel represents the Department and coordinates legal activities for the Department within the geographical boundaries of Southern Region (Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties), including Judicial Circuits Eleven and Sixteen. 

    The Assistant Regional Legal Counsel is a select exempt service legal position, which implements the delivery of professional legal services to the region pursuant to the policies, procedures and standards established within the Department.  The incumbent in this position reports directly to the Regional Legal Counsel, who is responsible for implementing and directing legal representation for the circuits and region.  This position requires extensive knowledge of state statutes, federal regulations, administrative rules, and rules of judicial procedure.

    Under the direction of Regional Legal Counsel, the Assistant Regional Legal Counsel assists in planning, management, implementation, and operation of the legal services performed in the circuits and region. 

    The Assistant Regional Legal Counsel advises the Regional Director as well as region staff about legal and policy decisions which affect the day to day activities of the region.  This responsibility includes attending meetings, as well as providing counsel and advice to staff concerning the legal ramifications of potential litigation, legislation, policy decisions, court decisions, and Department legal opinions of statewide importance. 

    The Assistant Regional Counsel acts in a confidential capacity to advise and assist the Regional Legal Counsel in formulating policies which are applicable to collective bargaining unit employees; in the administration of agreements resulting from collective bargaining negotiations; and in a variety of matters dealing with personnel administration and employee relations, to include representing the Department in union grievances, Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC) hearings and in personnel civil litigation, as need arises.

    The Assistant Regional Legal Counsel, under the direction of the Regional Legal Counsel, implements the legal opinions and policies established and issued by the Department’s General Counsel. 

    The Assistant Regional Legal Counsel is responsible for assisting in the supervision and management of outside contract attorneys who represent the Department in circuit legal matters. 

    The Assistant Regional Legal Counsel should demonstrate leadership within the broadest regional legal community, maintaining sound and productive relationships with the judiciary, the Florida Bar, private and public law firms, and other legal stakeholders.

    Under the supervision and direction of the Regional Legal Counsel, specific responsibilities include:

    Serves as legal counsel in circuit operations involving regional policy, participating in planning, organizing, and directing the implementation of legal functions in the region. 

    Represents the Regional Director and the Department in legal matters, including, but not limited to, public benefits, foster care, adoptions, public records, licensing, contract review, employment, exemption from employment disqualification and public records. 

    Has an advisory interrelationship with the Statewide Director and regional managing attorneys for Child Legal Services with respect to family safety law and policy, working with them in close communication and coordination, particularly with respect to litigation and appellate matters pertaining to multiple practice areas, and all matters of statewide importance.

    Provides advice and counsel to circuit committees and sub-committees. Attends Alliance and related meetings as requested. 

    Provides PERC, public records and related trainings, as well as other circuit trainings at the direction of the Regional Legal Counsel and the Regional Director or at the request of the General Counsel.

    Supervises or provides oversight and administrative assistance for all litigation functions relating to representing the circuits in state and federal courts.

    Assists in the day to day administration and supervision of the circuits’ legal office.  Supervises circuit legal staff that may include, but not be limited to, paralegal specialists, secretarial and administrative staff, and support staff, as well as legal interns and junior level Assistant Regional Counsels. Coordinates legal services provided by attorneys contracting within the circuit and Region.

    Conducts varied trial litigation and pretrial discovery in both federal and state courts.  Represents the Department in general civil appellate cases (other than appellate cases within the jurisdiction of Child Legal Services) in federal and state courts on matters that arise in the Region.

    Prepares written legal opinions involving federal and state statute interpretations, administrative rules, and court decisions consistent with agency policy and direction from the Office of the General Counsel. 

    Other duties as necessary to the best interests of the Region, Department, and State as assigned.

    The salary is based on qualifications. A minimum of 3 years practicing law as well as good standing with the Florida Bar are required.

    The salary range for this position is $67,000 to 73,700 per year, and includes an excellent benefits package with health benefits, life insurance, dental insurance benefits, four weeks paid vacation, paid state holidays off with pay, a personal day, paid sick leave, and a state funded retirement package.

    Earthjustice is now accepting applications for a Staff Attorney to join our team of lawyers and advocates who are using the power of the law to speed the transition of our nation’s energy system away from dirty fossil fuels and to promote clean energy in its stead.  The position will preferably be based in our Philadelphia, Pennsylvania office, but for the right candidate we would also consider placing the position in Chicago, Washington DC, or New York City.   

    While the position will be housed in Earthjustice’s Coal Program, the Staff Attorney’s work will focus on challenging proposed gas-fired power plants and related infrastructure to help ensure that as coal plants retire they are replaced with clean energy, rather than new gas capacity.  The Staff Attorney will be tasked with advancing and expanding Earthjustice’s current gas docket, especially in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions, primarily through increased engagement in state public utility commissions that oversee resource planning and cost recovery by regulated utilities.  The attorney will work closely with staff in our Coal and Clean Energy Programs who have years of experience litigating in public utility commissions and other forums where many of the decisions about our nation’s energy future are made.  Click here for more information about the Coal Program, and here for the Clean Energy Program. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Litigate cases from beginning to end, performing all aspects of litigation.
    • Develop litigation and legal advocacy strategies to support program goals.

    • Supervise the work of Associate Attorneys and Litigation Assistants.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Excellent litigation skills, including top-notch legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills, with a strong preference for affirmative litigation experience

    • Knowledge and experience in energy law and issues is strongly preferred.

    Earthjustice is seeking a staff attorney with substantial community lawyering experience to join its Northeast regional office in New York City. Filling the position will build our capacity to represent communities in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania that face disproportionate environmental burdens.

    The Healthy Communities program is at the heart of Earthjustice’s mission to defend the right of all people to a healthy environment. This program encompasses work on clean air, clean water, toxic chemicals, pesticides, and waste facilities, as well as related domestic and international issues.     RESPONSIBILITIES

    Advise other regional office lawyers in the conduct of effective community-based legal work.

    Summary

    This position is responsible professional legal work calendaring and conducting hearings and make determinations on child support matters referred for hearing by family court judges. The Hearing Officer takes and evaluates evidence and testimony from witnesses and technical experts, uses that information in making findings of fact, conclusions of law and recommendations for the family court judges. The Hearing Officer is responsible for setting referred cases for hearing, conducting hearings, making determinations on cases, and preparing reports and recommendations with accompanying orders for the referring judge’s signature. This position reports directly to the Chief Judge or a designee.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Graduate from an accredited law school, membership in good standing in the Florida Bar and five years of experience in the practice of law including at least one year of experience in family law.

    Essential Duties

    The selected candidate will review judge’s orders of referral and conducts legal research in preparation for hearing family law cases, schedule cases and conducts hearings in compliance with applicable regulations and laws; gathers data in the form of documentary evidence and testimony. This person will review reports and recommendations submitted by attorneys and considers related research and information presented at hearings to make case determination; in the form of recommended orders and reports to the courts. The hearing officer takes and evaluates evidence and testimony from witnesses and technical experts and uses that in making legal factual recommendations. Also makes ruling on pre-trial and post judgement motions including discovery, dismissal and motions for relief, clarification and re-hearings.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply Florida statutes, case law and Florida rules of Court. Knowledge of the rules of evidence and the ability to take evidence. Ability to work with litigants who are in stressful situations. Possess a professional, collaborative, and upbeat approach to their work and leadership style. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, the ability to prioritize and work under tight deadlines are essential to success in the role. Applicants must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, attention to detail and advanced proficiency with and Microsoft Office Suite and JVS or other case management system. Must have a demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse set of people in an open and friendly manner.

    2. The Judicial Applications are available online at The Florida Bar website www.flabar.org. To be considered, applicants must submit the following, without exception:

    (a) One original application, typed and bound securely;

    (b) One separate redacted copy of the application excluding all exempt information under Chapter 119, Florida Statutes, or other applicable public records law;

    (c) An electronic copy of both the application and the redacted application, saved in PDF format, each on a separate password-secured flash drive, with the applicant’s name clearly indicated on the exterior of the flash drives. Each PDF must be a single file not to exceed 8 Mb. The applicant shall provide the password(s) for the flash drives on a separate piece of paper, and shall not write the password on the exterior of the flash drives. No other attachments or files are to be included on the flash drives;

    (d) All letters of recommendation in your possession that you wish the Commission to consider shall be included as attachments to the original application and the redacted copy, and shall be included with the applications saved on the flash drives;

    (e) The financial disclosure information requested in the application, inclusive of a completed Form 6 (Full and Public Disclosure of Financial Interest) must be submitted with the original application, the redacted application and the electronic copies of each;

    (f) A recent photograph of the applicant shall be attached to the application and redacted application, and included as an attachment to the applications saved to the flash drives;

    4. The Commission strongly suggests that you submit your application as soon as it is prepared and well before the deadline.

    MIAMI – The Eleventh Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission has been asked to provide Gov. Rick Scott with nominees for the vacancy in the Miami-Dade Circuit Court created by the resignation of Circuit Court Judge Jerald Bagley.

    The commission requests that interested candidates submit an application for consideration. Applicants must meet the qualifications for circuit court judges described in Article V, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution.

    Applicants must deliver a complete original application by March 2, 2018, at 5 p.m. No copies shall be required. Any application delivered after the deadline will not be considered. The original application should be delivered to:
