Welcome to the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women

Lawyers Association

Greetings Gwen Cherry Family,

As we begin the month of February and our celebration of Black History Month, it is important that we reflect on the accomplishments of the past.  However, we also need to make sure we are pouring into others and the next generation of those who will fight for justice.  This could include mentoring law students, educating diverse communities on their rights, or supporting the younger attorneys of color in your office.  We have a long way to go in terms of diversity in big firms -- this is an area where we can all pull together for change. Our fight for diversity on the bench continues.  The JDI continues its work with a new administration in highlighting the many well qualified attorneys of color in the pipeline for appointment.

Please join us for our upcoming events.  We will be celebrating the investiture of Judge Gina Hawkins in Broward County on February 8; co-sponsoring a mixer with the Hispanic National Bar Association on February 21 at the Globe in the Gables; and No More Broken Hearts Domestic Violence Workshop hosted by School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall on February 23. We are also working on a Black History Month event -- stay tuned for more details!

In solidarity,

Melba V. Pearson, Esq.
