This is an open and continuous recruitment that will be used to fill multiple positions over the next few months. The post will remain up until open positions have been filled.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys (DPAs) cover work at courthouses in Seattle, Kent and Redmond. All deputies are expected to be able to work at any of those locations.
Attorneys hired into these roles are primarily assigned to work in our District Court Unit handling gross misdemeanor cases. Other potential work assignments include:
- Assisting with mainstream felony filings.
- Covering felony calendars.
- Working as part of the Involuntary Treatment Unit representing local psychiatric hospitals in civil commitment hearings. DPAs assigned to this unit work closely with mental health professionals to conduct civil mental health commitment trials and hearings.
Term-limited DPA contracts last 12 months, with the possibility of extension, and enjoy the same robust benefits package as regular employees. Term-limited deputies are represented by the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Association.
The courts are currently allowing virtual appearances for some calendars due to COVID-19, but in-person appearances will be necessary for hearings as well as for jury trials. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, we follow the most updated guidance from King County Public Health.
$70,773.87 - $74,954.46 Annually*
*A general wage increase of 4.5% is anticipated later in the year following ratification of the tentative agreement between King County and the Coalition of Unions.
