Hertz Corporate Counsel – Employment Law Position
The Corporate Counsel – Employment Law position is a member of the Hertz Law Department and its Labor & Employment practice group, reporting to the Vice President, Labor & Employment. It is an employment law specialist position located in Hertz’s Global Headquarters in Estero, Florida. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Being a trusted advisor to all levels of management and HR professionals, providing practical, timely, and strategic counsel on a wide range of employment matters arising under Federal, State, and Local laws
- Direct, hands-on management of sophisticated employment litigation matters, including class action lawsuits, as well as administrative and regulatory matters
- Monitoring substantive developments in employment laws and incorporating that knowledge in providing prompt and actionable advice
- Drafting and reviewing corporate policies to ensure legal compliance
- Developing and maintaining highly productive relationships with corporate and local operating management, as well as HR staff
- Creating and implementing field training programs and project plans
- Negotiating and drafting employment-related agreements
- Travel as required by litigation and other work demands
The successful applicant must have:
- A JD from an accredited law school in the top 25% of his/her class
- Membership in good standing in the Bar of at least one State and able to become certified as Authorized House Counsel in Florida on application
- A minimum of 4 years’ experience as a practicing employment attorney with a private law firm, corporate in-house legal department, and/or government agency
- The ability to give solid, practical advice that can be understood and used in a fast-paced business environment
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to build teams and lead through collaboration
- A strong work ethic, proven ability to meet deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously,
- with a very high level of autonomy
- Ability to read, write, and fluently speak and understand the English language.
- Excellent PC skills, including proficiency in Excel
Mandatory Requirements
The ideal candidate will also:
- Have first-chair employment litigation experience
- Be strategic and analytical, not just smart
- Prior experience working with a unionized workforce
