Comprising lawyers and other members of the community, a Merit Selection Panel will review each application. The district court will interview the five finalists but will appoint the new magistrate judge only after a satisfactory FBI full-field investigation and a satisfactory IRS tax check of the proposed appointee. The appointee must comply with the financial disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978, 5 U.S.C. app. 4 §§ 101-111.
The required application is available at each division's office of the Clerk of the Court or at www.flmd.uscourts.gov. Each applicant must submit by mail or by hand-delivery an original, completed application and five copies, including a recent and in-depth writing sample. Also, each applicant must e-mail an electronic version of the application to email@example.com. Letters of recommendation are neither required nor encouraged. The Clerk must receive each original application, regardless of the mode of delivery, at the following address by 5:00 p.m. on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2018.
