Job Description:

The Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of Texas is accepting
applications for a full-time Assistant Federal Public Defender in the Capital
Habeas Unit (CHU) in the Dallas Division of the Northern District of Texas. The
CHU represents indigent defendants on death row in Texas. Through an
interdisciplinary team approach, we provide our clients with the highest level of
legal representation with respect to their convictions and death sentences. CHU attorneys regularly litigate in federal district court, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Our attorneys are zealous advocates of the highest caliber, devoted to the defense of the indigent and enforcing the Bill of Rights. Job Requirements: The successful applicant must be a talented legal writer, possess excellent research skills, be team oriented, and committed to indigent criminal defense. Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school, and be a member in good standing of the highest court in the state where licensed, but a Texas bar license is strongly preferred. If you are a third-year law student or are awaiting your bar exam results in the fall of 2019, we will consider your application. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or a lawful permanent resident who is eligible to work in the U.S., and is either currently seeking U.S. Citizenship or intends to become a U.S. Citizen when eligible. Fluency in Spanish is very desirable.
