Description

The Assistant Town Attorney is a member of the Town Attorney's Office. Work is performed under general direction of the Town Attorney with significant latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. The employee provides legal guidance to the various Town departments, the Town Council, and the Town Advisory Boards and Committees. The work includes legal research and writing on various local government legal issues. Additional responsibilities are drafting and/or reviewing of resolutions, ordinances, contracts, legal pleadings, legal correspondence, and various routine legal documents. The employee shall represent the Town in litigation and administrative proceedings, when necessary. The employee shall act as the Town prosecutor handling municipal ordinance prosecution. This position requires a high level of critical thinking and ingenuity to bring successful resolutions to issues ranging from routine legal matters to unusually complex legal issues that the Town faces.

Minimum Requirements (Must meet by the closing date of the posting unless otherwise stated)

Juris doctor degree from an accredited school of law.
Minimum of three years of experience in local government law.
Must possess a license to practice law in the state of Florida and be an attorney at law in good standing in Florida.

Special Requirements

Experience in litigation, land use, zoning, development and redevelopment and public records law.
Must possess and maintain a valid class "E", State of Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
